Canadian cruise liner-the MS Explorer struck an iceberg and sank during the night in the Antarctic seas of Punta Arenas, Chile. While the no injuries have been reported, 154 members of this cruise line chattered in the cold as they awaited rescue in life boats floating near churning water of their sinking ship. A bit more fortunate than the historical Titanic. Then by the help of a Norwegian cruise ship and calm Atlantic weather, the people of the MS Explorer were saved and taken to military bases on the King George Islands.
This inspiring story of rescue had its issues but many of the passengers feel lucky that nobody was hurt. “It was very cold but I’m so happy because we all survived this and everyone’s all right. Now I’m going home,” –said Ely Chang (California, USA). With the rapidly changing weather in this region of the Earth it is mere luck that the members on this ship were able to leave the remains of this cruise line safely.
From this article I really took in what these people had to go through. To go on a cruise line just to crash in the middle of freezing cold waters and then having to crawl into crammed life boats while you watch your ship sink, wow. I cannot even comprehend how lucky these people are to not have anyone injured. Something so sever as a ship sinking in Antarctic waters is an eye opening experience and a tremendous awakening to how short our lives on this Earth truly are.
