Broken Vow is a beautiful piece that was written to tell the story of a mans heart and how he still dreams of his true love that he let go. In searching through this place in his heart, he finds even though it hurts he found a way to remember the good things and forget the bad. Also to keep faith that he will find his true love some day and that he needs to let go to be able to start searching for forever.
While listening to this beautifully conducted piece I tried to forget the words and feel the melody of the music. Afterwards I let the true expression of how he feels sink in. Then I thought of how to establish such an emotional feel to the song, and then I thought of tone. This song is portrayed as mezzo forte and legato. This means that the sound is medium loud and generally very smooth, soothing and connected. I feel this is a perfect match for the effect of love and life. Also by listening to the background more closely I heard strings, piano, and a French horn. Together with the tone of and quality of Groban singing it became a perfect blend of what he was trying to accomplish.
As a fan of Josh Groban I feel that he created an amazing piece that not only explores love, but a look of hope. Meaning that, there is someone out there for all of us if we have the courage and strength to find them. Also it holds truth that we all hold a special place in our heart for love and the ones we are searching for. If we are just patient we will find them, for love is too precious to not believe.
Lyrics
_ Tell me his name
I want to know
The way he looks
And where you go
I need to see his face
I need to understand
Why you and I came to an end
_ Tell me again
I want to hear
Who broke my faith in all these years
Who lays with you at night
When I'm here all alone
Remembering when I was your own
_ [Chorus:]
I let you go
I let you fly
Why do I keep on asking why
I let you go
Now that I found
A way to keep somehow
More than a broken vow
_ Tell me the words I never said
Show me the tears you never shed
Give me the touch
That one you promised to be mine
Or has it vanished for all time
_ I'd give away my soul
To hold you once again
And never let this promise end
